In June 1919, a group of members of the 309th Heavy Field Artillery, 79th Division, A.E.F., gathered to discuss the desirability
to form an American Legion Post. Those attending the meeting were all former buddies of William Doud and served with him
in France.
William W. Doud was a Rochester boy who was killed in action near Grand-Pr'e, France on November 1, 1918. On July 8,
1919, the National Headquarters of the American Legion granted the charter in the memory of William W. Doud.
As members of the American Legion Doud Post 98, we are proud of our past and we will continue to serve veterans and their
families as well as our community by increasing awareness in patriotism and veteran issues.
